"On 17 January 2015, Rebecca Skinner delivered for us a moving and entertaining ceremony for our wedding, held in the beautiful Hunter Valley.
Our paths crossed on 5 August 2014 following a Google search of celebrants able to service the Hunter Valley region. Being from Sydney ourselves, Nathan and I were a little lost when it came to sourcing suppliers from this area. Rebecca was neither the cheapest, nor the most expensive, but she was the one that we felt ‘clicked’ with us. Having someone perform such an important role in your life, it is important to choose someone with whom you feel you have a connection; and we definitely felt this with Rebecca. Rebecca also referred us to other suppliers in the Hunter region to help us narrow our search for other elements of our wedding.
During a research mission to the Hunter Valley in mid August, we were able to finally put a face to the name, and meet with Rebecca face-to-face. Nathan and I spent several hours chatting with Rebecca, divulging details of our courtship and life stories. Rebecca’s warm personality and passion for her work shined through, and she took notes whilst also remaining attentive and engaged with us during our visit. Nathan and I also made friends with Rebecca’s little pooches, which reassured us we had found a kindred spirit in that we both relish the companionship of animals.
Following our visit, Rebecca sent us an email with a purpose-written and entirely customized ceremony draft based on the topics of our conversation during our visit. Rebecca skillfully peppered through references to our passion for boating and water sports, our love for each other and our animals, and was also able to incorporate respectful references to deceased relatives without causing unrest with an extended family brought into the mix.
Rebecca gently prodded us when we needed to provide important information, as at times, we became so wrapped up in wedding planning we forgot to send it in time. At all times, Rebecca conducted herself with grace and kindness. We exchanged many emails during the following months, helping us fine-tune our ceremony. Rebecca also kindly attended a rehearsal at our venue the day before our wedding, and provided expert guidance as to the ‘usual’ set up, and where people needed to sit and stand on the day.
On our wedding day, Rebecca was a calming presence for my Groom, and kept the groomsmen on their toes whilst they waited patiently at the altar. Dressed beautifully, Rebecca delivered a polished ceremony which had our guests enthralled from start to finish. Far from the pomp and circumstance of some ceremonies (where you find yourself drifting off or admiring the vision out of the window), ours incorporated elements of humour and fun, without sounding corny and ‘mushy’. Rebecca’s enunciation skills are admirable, and invited commendation from several of our guests. Other guests commented that it was the perfect balance of lighthearted and romantic; precisely the type of ceremony we were after.
Post ceremony, Rebecca was prompt with registering our marriage online, helping fast-track the name-change process for myself as the Bride. Rebecca will always be a special person in our lives, and we have no hesitation in referring couples to engage her as a celebrant. Whether you are after romance, humour, reverence or anything in between, I am sure that Rebecca will not disappoint. Rebecca is also versed in Naming Ceremonies, funeral services or any civil ceremony you wish.
P.S. If your budget allows, I also strongly recommend you enquire about Rebecca’s professional ‘This is your life’ publications and bound books. From what we saw they were very impressive, and would make a wonderful gift or additional parents/grandparent’s album following your special day." - ALYSSA GALLIFORD
